28 September 2008 - Constanta, Romania – Faleza Nord. Car 157 standing at the terminus of Line 102, which overlooks the Black Sea. The Constanta track is very worn and looks (and feels) as though it dates from the opening of the tramway in 1984. The need to completely replace both trams and trackwork is probably the main reason for closure.

28 September 2008 - Constanta, Romania – Faleza Nord. A typical Romanian tramscape at the terminus of Line 102. The trams have all gone, of course, and this line is now a bus. Note the unprotected inspection pit – if you fall down it, that’s your problem – this is the normal Romanian approach to safety! I expect the hole is still there, even though the trams are gone…..

28 September 2008 - Constanta, Romania - Strada Zorelelor: Constanta tramways opened in 1984, the same time as several other Romanian cities because Government decree required them, often to link housing areas to heavy industry. The Constanta system comprised just two routes and was equipped with a number of URAC-designed V3A trams built by the Electrocomputere works in Craiova. These cars carried quite large numbers of passengers, but were crude in design and not particularly popular, so were later joined by some ex-Berlin surplus Tatra KT4-D trams. Here, a V3A nears the city terminus of Line 102, which overlooked the Black Sea and the beach.
