5 Oktober 2008 - Arad, Romania – Strada Preparandiei. Arad has a quite extensive metre-gauge tramway system that is a favourite of tramfans from Western Europe. Here you can find single tracks in narrow, unmade streets and a very long interurban line, operated by a few home-built Timis trams and a bewildering variety of second-hand trams from systems in Germany. Tatra T4 1124 and its partner are both ex-Halle.

31 März 2011 - Arad (RO) – Platform Vest. This terminus is at the edge of Arad city in a large industrial estate, at the end of a single track line several km long. There is no other traffic except for a tram that comes here just TWICE A DAY, once very early in the morning and once at lunch time. I never came here on the early morning trip, but at lunchtimes no-one comes and no-one leaves, although a few workers get on at intermediate stops nearer the city. In contrast, there are many buses going to the city, but the tram line isn’t used (although it goes to exactly the same place). The line was built with EU money in the mid-1990s – you have to ask why?
